Allow me to reintroduce myself, my name is…

If you’ve never heard the Jay-Z song intro in the title, do yourself a favor and google “Jay-Z PSA”. It hypes you up quick. Maybe a little too gung ho for an introduction to a personal finance blog, but I am hoping this won’t be your ordinary, run-of-the-mill, Wonder Bread-type finance content.

My name is…not important. Let’s keep that to the side for now, but you can call me “B”. I was born in Portland, ME and raised in the Greater Portland area most of my life. I left Maine to attend college at Wake Forest University in North Carolina and after graduation started working in investment banking. Years later, after some introspection and realizing that I had seen more than my fair share of sloppy bachelorette parties on Broadway, I decided to move back to Maine.

I have always been a bit of a nerd. Though I graduated from the bowl cut, braces and thick glasses look that I rocked in 7th grade, I kept plenty of nerdy quirks. One of these quirks is continually trying to stretch my thinking around spending, investing and overall wealth accumulation. In my mind, the best feeling in the world is having what Burt Reynolds so tastefully described as “F*ck you” money. The idea that you have enough wealth stashed that you can theoretically walk away and do whatever you want for the rest of your life - whether that is with a pina coloda on the beach, volunteering, or traveling around the world.

The purpose of this blog is to help discuss the best habits and actions that can get us to the “F*ck you” money stage the fastest. I am not posturing as being some guru on personal finance, I still have so much to learn, but I have tinkered with some strategies that have worked for me and I would like to share. I am constantly trying new things and though some of them don’t work out long-term (like that bowl cut) I want to share what I can.

Looking forward to getting started.
